Lathe Operator

Job Title: Lathe Operator Department: Production / Machine Shop Industry: Fabrication / Steel / Engineering Plant Job Responsibilities: Operate lathe machines to manufacture and repair mechanical components as per drawings and specifications. Set up the lathe machine, select suitable tools, and adjust cutting parameters. Perform turning, facing, boring, threading, grooving, chamfering, drilling, and related machining operations. Read and understand engineering drawings, dimensions, tolerances, and machining instructions. Select appropriate cutting tools, work-holding devices, and measuring instruments. Check job dimensions using vernier caliper, micrometer, bore gauge, and other measuring tools. Maintain required dimensional accuracy and surface finish. Inspect finished components and correct machining deviations when required. Carry out basic machine maintenance, lubrication, cleaning, and tool replacement. Identify abnormal machine conditions and report breakdowns to the maintenance team. Maintain proper records of production, job quantities, and rejected components. Follow workplace safety procedures, PPE requirements, and housekeeping standards. Coordinate with supervisors, fitters, welders, and other production personnel to complete jobs on time. Qualification: ITI – Machinist / Turner preferred. Diploma in Mechanical Engineering is an added advantage. Experience: 2–7 years of experience as a lathe operator in a fabrication, steel, heavy engineering, or machine shop environment. Fresh ITI candidates with practical machining knowledge may also be considered.
