A Senior Chemist for a Steel Melting Shop (SMS) manages laboratory operations and chemical analysis to ensure molten steel meets exact quality grades.Key ResponsibilitiesMolten Steel Analysis: Test heat-wise samples (ladle, tundish, finished steel) for elements like C, Si, Mn, P, and S.Instrument Operation: Run and maintain testing tools such as Optical Emission Spectrometers (OES), XRF, and Leco analyzers.Quality Control: Report rapid test results to production teams for quick heat adjustments before casting.Lab Maintenance: Calibrate instruments regularly, manage chemical inventories, and follow safety protocols.RequirementsEducation: M.Sc. in Chemistry / Analytical Chemistry or B.Sc. in Chemistry.Experience: 5 to 8 years of relevant laboratory experience in a steel or metal manufacturing plant.
Required skills
Instrument Analysis: Operating and troubleshooting OES (Optical Emission Spectrometry) and XRF (X-ray Fluorescence) analyzers.Leco Analyzers: Testing carbon and sulfur content in metal and raw samples.Wet Chemical Analysis: Performing classical titration and gravimetric methods for elements not covered by machines.Raw Material Testing: Measuring physical parameters like sizing and moisture content for fluxes, alloys, and scrap.Calibration & Maintenance: Standardizing lab instruments according to strict schedules
