Role Overview
Job Title: Pulpit Operator (Rolling Mill / Steel Industry)
Location: Central control room ("the pulpit")
Core Purpose: Serve as the nerve center for automated heating, rolling, and shaping processes
Key Responsibilities
System Control: Operate hot/cold rolling mills, furnaces, and shears using HMI and SCADA screens.
Process Adjustments: Fine-tune speed, tension, pressure, and temperature parameters in real time.
Monitoring & Alarms: Watch camera feeds, sensor data, and control gauges to detect jams or equipment failures.
Troubleshooting: Diagnose mechanical or electrical issues quickly to minimize line downtime.
Team Coordination: Communicate constantly with floor teams, reheating furnace crews, and maintenance staff.
Safety & Compliance: Enforce safety protocols, monitor alarms, and log shift production metrics.
Required skills
Experience: 2 to 5+ years working in a steel manufacturing or heavy rolling mill environment. Technical Skills: Strong understanding of electrical/mechanical mill instrumentation and computerized control panels. Attention to Detail: High alertness to spot visual or automated anomalies and respond instantly.
