About this role
A Motor Rewinder (Electrician) in the Electrical RM2 department of a heavy industrial or steel plant environment is a specialized technical role responsible for the end-to-end repair, refurbishment, maintenance, and rewinding of high-capacity AC/DC electric motors, transformers, and rotating electrical machinery. Operating within a critical section (such as a Rolling Mill or Raw Material zone designated as RM2), this role ensures that heavy-duty drive systems, pumps, and crane motors experience minimal downtime.
Required skills
Motor Winding & Stripping Expertise: Proficiency in stripping burnt coils, calculating turns, measuring wire gauges, and manual or machine-winding AC/DC stators, armatures, and rotors. Electrical Testing & Diagnostics: Ability to operate diagnostic tools such as Meggers (insulation resistance testing), multimeters, growlers, Hi-Pot testers, and clamp meters to pinpoint ground faults, inter-turn shorts, and open circuits. Insulation & Baking Operations: Deep knowledge of applying class F and H insulating materials, handling resin/varnish dipping tanks, and operating industrial baking/curing ovens. Brazing & Mechanical Assembly: Skilled in copper joining techniques (silver soldering and gas/electric brazing) along with handling bearings, mechanical seals, and heavy mechanical disassembly tools.

High-Voltage & Heavy-Duty Specialization: Direct experience repairing High Tension (HT) motors, slip-ring motors with brush-rigging, DC traction/crane motors, and heavy industrial transformer coils. Vibration & Dynamic Balancing: Advanced capability to perform dynamic rotor balancing and alignment checks to prevent post-repair mechanical vibration and bearing failure. Preventive Maintenance Planning: Familiarity with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) or SAP PM modules to log repair histories, track component life cycles, and manage electrical spare parts inventory. Rewinding Automation: Experience with digital/automated coil-winding machinery, advanced programmable tensioners, and automated temperature-controlled curing systems.
