About this role
Shift & Operations Management: Assisting the Department Manager in planning, supervising, and executing daily shift operations or maintenance schedules smoothly.
Troubleshooting & Maintenance: Handling technical bottlenecks, equipment breakdowns, or process deviations on the shop floor to minimize downtime.
Quality & Output Tracking: Monitoring daily output against target plans, ensuring product quality meets standards, and controlling scrap/wastage rates.
Team Coordination: Supervising shift engineers, supervisors, and technicians; delegating daily tasks and ensuring workforce discipline and safety compliance.
Safety & Compliance (EHS): Enforcing strict adherence to plant safety rules, safe work permits, proper use of PPE, and reporting safety near-misses.
Data Management & Reporting: Maintaining daily logbooks, shift reports, raw material tracking, and reporting plant performance metrics to the Manager.
Process Improvement: Participating in continuous improvement initiatives (5S, Kaizen, TPM) to boost plant efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
Required skills
Core Engineering Knowledge: Strong understanding of heavy plant machinery, equipment, and processes relevant to your department (e.g., furnaces, rolling mills, boilers, turbines, or electrical distribution systems). Troubleshooting & Maintenance: Ability to perform quick root-cause analysis during equipment breakdowns, technical snags, or process deviations. Process Optimization: Knowledge of standard operating procedures (SOPs), safety interlocks, and methods to reduce wastage and improve shift output. Tools & Software: Familiarity with plant automation systems (PLC/SCADA), computerized maintenance management, and ERP systems (such as SAP) used in manufacturing.
