About this role
Operational Oversight: Monitor electrical equipment (motors, conveyors, PLCs, control systems), ensuring consistent power supply and process flow.
Team Leadership: Supervise, direct, and coordinate electrical technicians and operators, assigning duties and providing guidance.
Maintenance & Troubleshooting: Respond to electrical faults, perform breakdown and preventive maintenance, diagnose issues, and conduct root cause analysis.
Safety & Compliance: Implement safety protocols, conduct safety meetings, manage High Tension (HT) and Low Tension (LT) switching, and issue work permits.
Reporting & Documentation: Maintain detailed shift logs, prepare reports, track energy consumption, and manage spare parts inventory.
Shift Handover: Effectively communicate critical information to the next shift.
Coordination: Liaise with other departments (mechanical, operations) for seamless plant function.
Required skills
1. Core Electrical Technical Skills HT & LT Power Distribution: Comprehensive hands-on knowledge of High Tension (HT) and Low Tension (LT) power supply systems, switchgears, HT/LT circuit breakers (VCB, ACB), and protection relays. Transformer & Substation Management: Operation, routine maintenance, and fault monitoring of power and distribution transformers, power factor correction panels (APFC), and capacitor banks. Motor Control & Drives: Deep understanding of HT/LT induction motors, Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), soft starters, and motor control centers (MCC / PCC panels) used for heavy plant equipment. Plant Distribution Networks: Safe management of plant lighting, earthing networks, lightning arrestors, and cable galleries. 2. Coal Washery & Heavy Plant Operational Skills Conveyor & Machinery Interlocking: Expertise in troubleshooting and maintaining complex electrical sequential interlocking systems for heavy conveyor belts, crushers, screens, dense medium separation (DMS) units, and slurry pumps. Fault Diagnosis & Breakdown Handling: Quick identification of electrical trips, short circuits, earth faults, and motor burnouts to minimize plant downtime during continuous operational shifts. Preventive & Predictive Maintenance: Executing scheduled shutdown maintenance, insulation resistance (IR) testing, contact resistance testing, and thermal scanning of electrical panels. 3. Safety & Statutory Compliance Skills Lockout/Tagout (LOTO): Strict implementation and enforcement of LOTO protocols before any electrical maintenance or repair work begins to ensure zero-harm standards. Electrical Safety Rules: Thorough knowledge of Indian Electricity (IE) Rules, Central Electricity Authority (CEA) regulations, and factory safety standards. PPE & Emergency Response: Proper handling of electrical hazards, arc flash protection, use of insulated tools, and managing electrical fire emergencies (using CO2/DCP extinguishers). 4. Soft Skills & Administrative Competencies Shift Management & Leadership: Ability to lead a team of electricians and technicians, delegate tasks efficiently, and manage shift handovers smoothly. Logbook & Report Keeping: Maintaining shift logbooks, energy meter readings, breakdown registers, and daily power consumption reports. Languages: Proficiency in English, Hindi, and Odia (vital for communicating instructions to technicians, plant operators, and local labor).
