About this role

Sample & Experiment Support: Prepare, label, and process samples; set up experimental setups; assist with conducting tests and experiments. Equipment & Maintenance: Clean, maintain, and calibrate lab equipment and glassware; ensure instruments are in working order. Inventory & Supplies: Conduct stock checks, maintain inventory, manage chemical stores, and order supplies . Housekeeping & Safety: Keep the laboratory clean, organized, and sterile; dispose of hazardous materials safely; follow all safety regulations. Documentation: Maintain lab records, logs, and registers for equipment, samples, and findings. Assistance: Issue equipment to students/staff; provide general support to scientists and lab personnel

Required skills

1. Core Technical & Laboratory Skills Sample Preparation: Hands-on experience in collecting, crushing, grinding, splitting, and polishing samples of raw materials (such as manganese ore, chrome ore, quartz, coal/coke) and finished products (Ferro Manganese, Silico Manganese) for testing. Assistance in Chemical & Physical Testing: Supporting lab chemists and metallurgists in setting up equipment, weighing samples using precision balances, and preparing chemical solutions or reagents. Basic Instrument Handling: Familiarity with operating basic lab machinery such as sieve shakers, jaw crushers, muffle furnaces, moisture balances, and supporting Spectrometers (like OES). Equipment Maintenance & Housekeeping: Routine cleaning, calibration checks, and upkeep of laboratory glassware, crucibles, furnaces, and testing workbenches to maintain a contamination-free environment. 2. Safety & Plant Compliance Laboratory Safety Protocols: Strict adherence to safety guidelines regarding chemical handling, acid burns, high-temperature furnaces, and dust inhalation. Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Mandatory use of safety goggles, heat-resistant gloves, aprons, face shields, and respirators during sample preparation and furnace operations. Hazardous Waste Management: Proper disposal of chemical residues, slag samples, and broken glassware according to plant environmental norms. 3. Operational & Record-Keeping Competencies Data Logging: Maintaining physical registers or entering sample details, batch numbers, and test dates accurately into digital tracking systems or logs. Coordination: Smooth communication with production and furnace shop floors to ensure timely collection and delivery of test samples. Punctuality & Discipline: Ability to handle repetitive physical tasks (crushing/grinding) efficiently while maintaining high accuracy under tight production timelines.
