About this role

Incoming Unloading: Supervise and collect representative samples of incoming raw materials (e.g., raw coal, raw minerals) during the unloading of trucks, dumpers, or railway rakes.Outgoing Loading: Monitor and draw samples of finished products (e.g., washed coal, coke, or processed minerals) during the loading process before dispatch to clients.Perform physical inspections (checking for moisture levels, foreign materials, particle/size degradation, and contamination) on-site.2. Laboratory Testing & AnalysisConduct routine proximate and ultimate laboratory analyses on collected samples, which typically include: Moisture content determination (Total and Inherent Moisture)Ash content analysisVolatile Matter (VM) and Fixed Carbon (FC) estimationGross Calorific Value (GCV) tests using a bomb calorimeter (where applicable)

Required skills

Coal & Coke Testing Standards: Familiarity with standard testing procedures (such as IS standards for coal and coke analysis, e.g., moisture, ash, volatile matter, and fixed carbon determination). Lab Equipment Operation: Hands-on competence with laboratory instruments including muffle furnaces, hot air drying ovens, analytical electronic balances, jaw crushers, and riffle dividers (for sample reduction). Proximate Analysis: Ability to accurately perform and calculate total moisture, inherent moisture, ash content, and volatile matter. Safety & Chemical Handling: Proper handling of chemicals, high-temperature equipment, and adherence to laboratory safety standards. 2. Operational & Field Skills Sampling Methodology: Knowledge of standard mechanical or manual sample collection techniques from trucks, dumpers, stockyards, and railway rakes to ensure representative sampling. Weighbridge & Logistics Coordination: Basic understanding of weighbridge operations, gross/tare/net weight verification, and matching physical material condition with transport documents/invoices. Visual Inspection: Ability to quickly spot-check physical anomalies during loading and unloading (e.g., excessive moisture, foreign debris, size degradation, or contamination). Shift Operations: Capability to manage testing workflows efficiently under high-pressure plant dispatch schedules and willingness to work in rotating shifts.
