About this role
A design engineer bridges the gap between creative concepts and practical, manufacturing-ready reality. They apply physics, mathematics, and engineering principles to design products, systems, or software features.
Core Responsibilities
Create CAD Models and Blueprints: Build detailed 2D/3D models using Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software like AutoCAD or SolidWorks.
Conduct Engineering Calculations: Perform stress analysis, tolerance stack-ups, thermal assessments, and material selections.
Develop Prototypes: Build and test physical or digital prototypes to evaluate functionality, safety, and performance.
Ensure Manufacturability: Verify that a design can actually be built efficiently and within budget, rather than just looking good on paper.
Collaborate Across Teams: Work closely with industrial designers, marketing, suppliers, and production teams.
Required skills
Hardware & Mechanical/Civil Engineering: Focus on physical products, machinery, automotive parts, aerospace components, or construction elements. They deal with physical materials, weights, ergonomics, and factory tooling. Software & Tech Industry (UI/UX Engineering): Focus on the intersection of visual design and front-end code (often called UX Engineers or Design Technologists). They build production-grade interfaces, design systems, micro-interactions, and complex web animations.
